About This Program
The Bachelor of Science in Psychology is a biblically-centered program that focuses on educating students in the principles of theology, philosophy, and psychology in order to prepare students to enter the helping fields, i.e. professional counseling, social work, law, and medicine. Truett McConnell’s academic program in psychology is unique in its approach of grounding students in the truth of the Bible while introducing them to various philosophies and theories that guide the research and practice of psychology.

While our expert educators do not shy away from teaching secular philosophies and theories within psychology, they also discuss how these ideas can and should be interpreted through the lens of Scripture. As a TMU psychology major, you’ll learn from faculty with broad psychology career experience in areas from counseling and research to neuroscience to sports psychology.

For instance, our psychology concentration in neuroscience is unique because we’re one of the few schools in the U.S. that integrates faith into your neuroscience coursework.

All Truett psychology degree students take either an internship or research practicum and complete a capstone project. You’ll also put your learning to work through semester-long labs in Systems Neuroscience or Sensation and Perception. Concentrations

Our B.S. in Psychology with a concentration in General Psychology focuses on the knowledge of human behavior as well as research, statistics, and writing skills. You’ll cover several subjects, including Abnormal Psychology, Christianity and Psychology, and Human Growth and Development—as you prepare for many psychology career options.

Our Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a concentration in Clinical and Counseling Psychology explores the application of psychological principles to personal and interpersonal functioning, assessment, and intervention. You’ll take courses in areas such as Models of Counseling, Psychology of the Self, and Psychological Assessment.

Our B.S. in Psychology with a concentration in Development, Marriage, and Family Psychology blends psychology and philosophy and takes a broad-based look at topics such as the lives of couples and families, human development across the lifespan, and differences between men and women.

Our Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a concentration in Neuroscience takes a broad look at the study of the brain and how it works. You’ll learn how discoveries in various areas of neuroscience impact a wide array of fields while taking courses in Developmental Neuropsychology, Molecular Neuroscience, Systems Neuroscience, and more. Several of the courses within this concentration are only offered on campus.

Our B.S. in Psychology with a concentration in Social Services is designed to help you improve the lives of children and families—or pursue psychology careers in community development. Prepare for your profession with courses in topics such as Culture and Human Development, Human Services, Psychology and the Law, Social and Moral Development, and Trauma.

Our B.S. in Psychology with a concentration in BS – Master of Arts in Global Mental Health Counseling is designed for the student who intends to pursue a Master’s degree in counseling after completing their Bachelor’s degree. This “Double Bear” concentration allows you to take two graduate courses while still completing your undergraduate degree. These courses can later be applied toward one of our four Master’s degrees in counseling.
