New Bears Arrive as TMU Begins the Fall Semester

Truett McConnell University’s campus community welcomed incoming students and their families on August 15 as they moved into residence halls and prepared to begin the new academic year.

Campus was filled with excitement as the faculty, staff, student leaders, and volunteers greeted the new Bears, unloading vehicles, carrying boxes, and helping students settle into their new campus homes.

Members of many local churches also joined the TMU community in welcoming new students, volunteering throughout the day to assist incoming families and welcome new students to the North Georgia community.

“My favorite part of welcoming new students to campus is getting to share in the excitement they all have for being here,” said Macy Walker, a member of the Student Life Leadership Team. “I love meeting new people, hearing their stories, and making them feel more at ease in a new environment!”

The day concluded with a message of encouragement from TMU President Dr. Larry Lyon and his wife, Stephanie, followed by prayer for students and their families as they prepared for the next stage of life.

Afterward, new students participated in a long-standing TMU tradition, The Gate Ceremony. During the ceremony, the incoming class walked through the front gate onto campus, symbolizing the beginning of their journey at Truett McConnell University. At graduation, these students will walk back through the same gate, celebrating the completion of their time at TMU as they are sent out into the world. This ceremony also marked the official start of Freshmen Orientation, where students began connecting with classmates, learning about campus life, and preparing for the first day of classes.

“I am so excited that our students are back on campus for the new academic year to begin! My family shares the significance and excitement of move-in day as our own daughter has moved into her dorm as a freshman at TMU,” said TMU President, Dr. Larry Lyon. “My hope for the families and students of TMU is that they would love Christ more deeply as they start or continue to prepare for their calling and careers. I pray that this season of life is full of joy and move-in weekend was just the start of a great year here in the foothills! Go Bears!”
