Biography

Mr. Hooper graduated from Young Harris College where he was a member of The Spat Club, (honorary service organization for men), Phi Theta Kappa, Pro Musica Camerata, and Inter-religious Council. He is a cum laude graduate of Shorter College with a Bachelor of Music Education degree and the University of Georgia with a Masters in Music Education. He served as choral director at Gainesville High School( Gainesville, GA) where he directed the musicals, Showboat and Oklahoma.

Mr. Hooper has performed around the United States with a gospel music group where he sang and served as accompanist for the group. He served for 11 years at Young Harris College where he taught voice and piano, and directed the Vocal Ensemble. Mr. Hooper served as Minister of Music for 29 years at First Baptist Church of Blairsville(GA) where he coordinated the entire music ministry and media ministry. He organized the first orchestra , handbell group, and Senior Adult choir for the church. He also developed the children’s choir program and an active Student Choir with performances across the USA, as well as other countries. His choirs have performed in the Berliner Dome, Salzburg Dome, Notre Dame Cathedral, St. Anne’s Church (Israel), in addition to performances in New York City, including St. Patrick Cathedral.

Mr. Hooper has been an Adjunct Voice Instructor in music at Truett McConnell University since 2015. He also serves as Minister of Music at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC. He and his wife, Paula, have three adult Children and one grandson.
