Program Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in the Humanities degree is designed for students who wish to prepare themselves for a strong pre-professional education in the liberal arts. Students acquire the writing, critical thinking, aesthetic, and analytical abilities required to pursue a master’s degree, or to advance in their career.
Why Study Humanities at TMU?
The TMU Humanities degree offers a unique blend of History and English/Creative Writing courses, equipping the student with a strong foundation of writing and research skills. This degree program provides additional electives whereby the student can delve into a 3rd area of study. The courses in this inter disciplinary degree program provide studies in American and English literature and History as well as a rich body of creative writing specialties. Faculty are guided in their teaching by the Biblical world view needed in today’s academic setting.

The history courses at TMU offer a traditional approach to history, emphasizing the great men and women, as well as the great literature, that contributed to American and Western cultures. At TMU, world history courses are grounded in a biblical worldview and American history courses are rooted in patriotism. Classes explore the eras of Classical Antiquity, the Medieval and Renaissance periods, and Modern Europe.

Paired with history, a large part of the humanities is a strong emphasis on literature. Students in the humanities program will spend significant time developing their writing skills and exploring creatively while integrating their faith. Students are introduced to the prominent works of American, British, and World Literature in a Christian environment. In classes unique to TMU, students have the opportunity to study a range of Christian literature.

While in the Humanities, students have the opportunity to dive deeper into a foreign language. Whether interested in Latin, Greek, or Hebrew, students are able to grow in their mastery of classical languages under the tutelage of gifted linguists.

The School of Humanities offers minors in Biblical Languages, English, Greek, and History. These programs introduce you to key concepts and help you learn to connect these ideas to your chosen career.
*Students cannot minor in a program they are majoring in.
